About

About Jonathan Toussaint

More than 25 years sitting with people at the turning points of their lives, and a simple belief underneath all of it: people are stronger than they know.

Jonathan is a counsellor, mediator, workplace trainer and registered marriage celebrant. He is an accredited mental health social worker and qualified counsellor, and holds a Master of Humanities in psychology from the University of Tasmania and a PhD in health science from Charles Sturt University.

For more than 25 years he has worked with individuals, couples, families, teams and communities: through anxiety, stress and low mood, through grief, trauma and conflict, and through the good milestones too. His background spans counselling, mediation, education and the leadership of community and health organisations, and it all points the same way, toward helping people understand themselves and each other, and move forward.

He is also a published author, of How to Talk to Girls (Allen & Unwin) and How do I look? Keys to a healthy body image, both written to help people through the challenges of growing up and living well.

Jonathan lives and practises in Minmi, on the western edge of Newcastle in New South Wales. He works with Sydney clients online, by secure video, and travels to Sydney for in-person sessions and ceremonies by arrangement. Wherever you meet, the approach is the same: warm, practical and unhurried.

How Jonathan works

Warm, practical, unhurried

Strengths first

He starts with what is already working in your life, your relationship or your team, and builds from there.

Trauma-informed

He works at your pace, in a way that feels safe, so the harder things have somewhere to go.

Whole of life

People are more than a problem. He looks at the whole picture, the practical and the personal together.

Also a celebrant

For the good days, too

Alongside his counselling and mediation work, Jonathan has been a registered marriage celebrant for more than 25 years. It is the same care, turned toward the happiest occasions: a wedding, a commitment, a renewal of vows, a baby naming, marked in your own words.

Start with a conversation

Whether it is counselling, mediation, training for your team or a wedding, the first step is a simple conversation about what you need and how you would like to meet. Jonathan reads every enquiry himself.
